As
we walked into the gates of the old territorial prison we first saw a big block
of cement where one of the original cell blocks use to be.
In the background we saw cell blocks and the admin building. Our tour guide was really cool and knew what she was talking
about because her mom and dad use to work there. Her mom worked in the admin
building. She worked there during
the riot of 1959, but 6 inmates saved her life by circling her and getting her
out of the building. We learned how
the prison guards used to communicate and about different times that they had
problems. We saw the cell
blocks,
even “Turkey Pete’s” cell just as it was when he died. We learned about why on the gallows have 13 stairs.
It is because there is 13 people who decide if you are guilty or
non-guilty, the judge and 12 jury members.
There is also 13 loops around noose for the same reason.
The gallows was in the old theater which was burned in the inside by an
inmate. |
