Are WIHS students part of Whitefish High School life?

Many students fulfill their elective requirements as well as pursue interests and hobbies by taking one or two classes at WHS.

WIHS students are encouraged to continue participating in WHS extracurricular activities including athletics, clubs, and music. All students participating in WHS athletics must meet eligibility requirements.

Who Goes to Whitefish Independent High School?

Candidates for WIHS include students who have completed 9th grade and are at risk for not completing high school. They are planning to attend community college, vocational-technical school, or enter directly into the work place.

Common “At Risk” Characteristics (students may exhibit one or several):

·             Has repeated at least one grade

·             Is a “Fifth-Year” Senior

·             Has absenteeism that is greater than ten percent during preceding semester.

·             Has overall GPA that is less that 1.5 prior to enrollment in alternative program.

·             Has failed one or more core subjects.

·             Is one or more semester credits per year behind rate required to graduate

·             Two or more years below grade level in reading or mathematics

·             Is pregnant or is a parent

·             Is an emancipated student

·             Is a previous drop-out

·             Other environmental, familial, economic, social, developmental factors which contribute to the student’s inability to progress academically
