The Trustees of Whitefish School District No. 44 and High School met for their monthly work session on October 28, 2003 in the Whitefish High School Library.

 

Members Present:         Chairperson Linda Maetzold, Pat Jarvi, Dave Fern, Brian Lauterbach, Doug Rhodes, David Kauffman, and Phil Mitchell.

 

Members Absent:          None.

 

Officials Present:           Superintendent Jerry House and District Clerk Danelle Reisch.

 

Call to Order

Chairperson Maetzold called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

 

Review/Revision to Agenda

There were no changes.

 

Public Comment

Superintendent House provided information about a packet of information from Steve Bryson regarding the Athletic/Activities position, transportation costs and ethics in coaching.  There was no other public comment.

 

WHS Athletic/Activities – Exploratory Discussion

Superintendent House introduced the topic.  Activities/Athletic Director Megan Olson responded to questions from the board relating to budgeting, transportation, and alternative funding sources.  She also outlined the problems involved in the District funding some programs and not others and encouraged the trustees to find a way to fund all sanctioned programs.  Discussion also followed regarding the State Soccer Tournament and the loss of money involved in hosting the tournament.

 

Policy 4329 – Work in Progress

Superintendent House provided information requested by the trustees in September included responses from coaches and information from the District’s insurance agent.  After discussion relating to use of small vehicles versus school busses, the board agreed to put the policy on the November agenda and continue to discuss the issue of small vehicle transportation and the timely use of school bus/coaches for extra-curricular transportation. 

 

Superintendent House also provided information about a contract with the Whitefish Fire Department for Medical Services transportation of students and staff.
