The Trustees of Whitefish School District No. 44 and High School met for a special meeting/work session on March 29, 2005 in the Whitefish High School Library.

 

Members Present:         Chairperson Linda Maetzold, Dave Fern, Pat Jarvi, Doug Rhodes, Phil Mitchell, and Brian Lauterbach.

 

Members Absent:          Amy Eddy.

 

Officials Present:           Superintendent Jerry House, District Clerk Danelle Reisch and Student Representative Steven Clark.

 

Call to Order-Special Meeting

Chairperson Maetzold called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

 

Review and Revision of the Agenda

There were no changes.

 

Public Comment

There was none.

 

Elementary Levy

District Clerk Reisch presented budget and levy information.  Phil Mitchell moved to approve an elementary levy of  $155,463 with a provision for special meeting April 8 if additional information is available that would result in a change to the levy amount.  Pat Jarvi seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.

At 7:23 p.m. Dave Fern moved to adjourn the special meeting.  Pat Jarvi seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.

At 7:24 p.m. Chairperson Maetzold called the meeting to order.

 

Review and Revision of the Agenda

Chairperson Maetzold removed Policy 1130 and 2320 and 1402 from the policy development discussion because the policies were approved on second reading at the March 8 meeting.

Policy Development

Superintendent House presented the following policy revisions, additions and replacements:

o        Policy 3300P - Corrective Actions and Punishment – discussion about the right to make up work during suspension followed

o        Policy 4330P - Rules and Regulations for Building Use – the current policy will remain in place

o        Policy 5314 - Substitute Teachers – the policy is not required, the information is included in Policy 5122

School to Work Program

Superintendent House provided information regarding the current school-to-work program.  He identified needs for a vocational technical program and career counseling.  He also asked the board for feedback regarding the program.  Trustees supported development of a vocational/technical program, but expressed concern about adding a program in light of potential future budget limitations.  Superintendent House will research the program and provide additional information to the board.

 

Personnel Discussion

Superintendent House will present hiring of coaches at the April 12 school board meeting.  He requested trustees contact him in advance of any concerns about any of the District’s extra-curricular programs.
