The Trustees of Whitefish School District No. 44 and High School met in regular session on December 14, 2004 in the Whitefish High School Library.

 

Members Present:         Chairperson Linda Maetzold, Doug Rhodes, Pat Jarvi, Brian Lauterbach, Dave Fern, Phil Mitchell, and Amy Eddy.

 

Members Absent:          None.

 

Officials Present:           Superintendent Jerry House, District Clerk Danelle Reisch, and student representative Steven Clark.

 

Call to Order

Chairperson Maetzold called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

 

Review and Revision of the Agenda

There were three changes to agenda from the original agenda:  recognition of the State Volleyball Champions, addition of a letter from Kim Schneider, postponing the track hiring.

There was none.

 

Minutes

Chairperson Maetzold requested comments and changes to the minutes of the November 9 regular meeting and the November 23 work session.  Pat Jarvi moved to approve the minutes of the meetings as presented.  Doug Rhodes seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.

 

District Program

Superintendent House recognized Central School Science Teacher Tim Joern for his recent completion of the National Board Certification.

 

Student Representative Report

·         Steven Clark and Superintendent House recognized the Whitefish High School State Class A Volleyball Champions, including coaches Jackie Fuller, Lucy McFadden and Colleen Sullivan.

·         Steven Clark also reported on Unified Students, Peace Project, Student Council, Honor Society, Drama, Key Club, student organizations committed to public relations, community service, violence prevention, fund raising activities, dances.

 

District Program-cont.

Curriculum Director Bobbie Barrett provided her semi-annual Curriculum and Instruction report to the board.  She provided information regarding proposed new courses at Whitefish High School, the new PLATO system, staff development, Annual Yearly Progress, assessment and alignment, gifted and talented, grading and reporting, 9th grade English, and reviews of math and language arts.

 

Administrative Staff Reports

District Clerk Reisch presented the following reports for discussion:

·         Elementary and High School Expenditure Reports

·         Elementary and High School Revenue Reports

·         Cash Flow Report

·         Student Activity Account Ledger Reports

·         Building Fund Cash Flow Report

·         Central School Construction Budget Report

 

She also updated the board on a review comparing the County treasurer’s investment pool and a financial institution proposal.

 

Superintendent House presented information on the following:

·         Central School Construction update including power lines,

·         Whitefish Education Foundation Update, advisory board is in place

·         Letter from Vonda Garcia indicating her intention to return in January from her leave of absence

·         Letter from Kim Schneider indicating her intention to return from her semester leave of absence

·         Turnitin.com – Counselor Kelly Talsma provided information about a new program designed to check student work for plagiarism

·         Superintendents’s Community Forum – January 20 to present feedback to Speak Up Whitefish contributors and provide an update on the Central School project.

·         Evaluation/Professional Growth – updating the teacher evaluation instrument

·         Enrollment

 

Action Items

 

Approval of Vehicle Donation

Superintendent House recommended approval of the donation of a 1989 Chevrolet S10 for the maintenance department.  Pete Graziano is donating the pickup.  Amy Eddy moved to accept the donation of the vehicle.  Pat Jarvi seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.

 

Whitefish High School Academic Offerings

Superintendent House requested approval the following three courses at Whitefish High School:

·         Marketing and Management Level I

·         Science Research Class

·         Graphic Arts

 

Amy Eddy moved to approve the additional classes at Whitefish High School.  Phil Mitchell seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.

 

Approval of PTA Donation

Superintendent House requested approval of the donation of a gym floor covering by Whitefish PTA.  The covering will allow the District to hold activities in the high school gym without risking damage to the hardwood floor.  Pat Jarvi moved to accept the PTA donation as presented.  Brian Lauterbach seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.

 

Montana High School Association Proposals

Superintendent House reviewed the proposals and presented administrative recommendations.  Dave Fern moved to allow Superintendent House and WHS Principal Kent Paulson to follow the recommendations and to vote in the best interest of the district on changes.  Pat Jarvi seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.

 

Consent Agenda

 

Bills and Payroll

District Clerk Reisch requested approval of the payment of the following bills and payroll for November:

·         Payroll – Warrants 9701-9898 for $824,990.24

·         Accounts payable - Warrants 19147-19359 for $809,768.77

 

Personnel Hiring

Superintendent House recommended hiring the following:

·         Linda Moulton – WHS Special Education Aide

·         Eletra Vandeburg – WHE Assistant Drama Advisor

·         Anita Malone – WHS Computer Aide

 

Non-Resident Student Admission

Superintendent House recommended admission of 5 non-resident students for the 2004-05 school year. 

 

Amy Eddy moved to accept the consent agenda as presented.  Phil Mitchell seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.
