The Trustees of Whitefish School District No. 44 and High School met for it annual retreat on August 24, 2004 in the Whitefish Independent High School.

Members Present: Chairperson Linda Maetzold, Dave Fern, Brian Lauterbach, Doug Rhodes, Pat Jarvi, Phil Mitchell and Amy Eddy.

Members Absent: None.

Officials Present: Superintendent Jerry House and District Clerk Danelle Reisch.

Call to Order

Chairperson Maetzold called the meeting to order at 9:04 a.m.

Public Comment

There was none.

Review of Board Governance

Facilitator Ginny Tribe led the board in a review and discussion of board governance.

The administrative team of Bobbie Barrett, Jill Rocksund, Chris Deister, Kim Anderson, Kerry Drown, Dave Means, Kent Paulson and Jeff Peck joined the board at 10:40 a.m.

Interviewing Process

Superintendent House reviewed the current hiring and interviewing process and the board discussed the merits of having a board member sit on the interviewing committee.

Merit Pay

Stacy Cummings from the Montana School Boards Association presented information related to merit or alternative pay scales. The board and administration agreed to review and evaluate the current compensation system before pursuing any alternatives.

Speak-Up Whitefish

Superintendent House reviewed the community input received during the Speak-Up Whitefish process.

Strategic Plan Revisions

Ginny Tribe led the board and administration in reviewing and revising the current strategic plan.

Adjourn

Pat Jarvi moved to adjourn the retreat at 5:00 p.m. Amy Eddy seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.
