The Trustees of Whitefish School District No. 44 and High School met for their monthly work session on April 27, 2004 in the Whitefish High School Library.

 

Members Present:         Chairperson Linda Maetzold, Dave Fern, Brian Lauterbach, Doug Rhodes, Phil Mitchell, Pat Jarvi, and David Kauffman.

 

Members Absent:          None.

 

Officials Present:           Superintendent Jerry House and District Clerk Danelle Reisch.

 

Call to Order

Chairperson Maetzold called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

 

Review/Revision to Agenda

Chairperson added No. 9 – Important Dates and switched the order of the Whitefish Independent High School handbook review and the Whitefish High School handbook review.

 

Public Comment

There was none.

 

Instructional Materials – Presentation for Discussion

Curriculum Coordinator Bobbie Barrett presented 8th grade science instructional materials for review.  High School teacher Chris Ruffatto presented the 7-12 Vocational Technical instruction materials. The materials will be placed on the May agenda for approval.

 

WHS Counseling Staff – Scheduling Improvements

Whitefish High School Counselor Barb Mansfield outlined proposals including meeting with students and parents for expectations in upper level classes in order to reduce scheduling changes in the fall.

 

Central School Construction Progress

Dewey Swank from Swank Enterprise provided budget and bid information.  He explained that several portions of the project would be bid again May 6.  He informed the board of steel price increases affecting the price of construction.  He also presented original budget estimates and potential bids for May 6.

 

Student Handbook Review

Feedback – WHS Staff Meeting

Superintendent House requested information from Doug Rhodes and Doc Kauffman from the meeting with the high school staff.  They shared a summary of the meeting to the other trustees.

 

Chairperson Maetzold asked the board members if they wanted policy requiring administrative positions to be opened in a manner similar to language in the negotiated collective bargaining agreements.  The trustees did not want to consider hiring language at this time.

 

Muldown Elementary

Curriculum Coordinator Bobbie Barrett presented the Muldown handbook changes to the board.

 

Central School

Central School Assistant Principal Kerry Drown presented the Central School handbook changes.

 

 

Whitefish Independent High School

Independent High School teacher Ray Boksich presented the Independent High School Handbook.

 

Whitefish High School

Barb Sorenson addressed the board on behalf of the PTA, and as a parent and substitute teacher encouraging a dress code supported by the teachers.

 

High School Principal Dorothy Schmautz presented the high school handbook changes.

 

Activities Director Megan Olson presented the changes to the student and coaching activity handbooks.

 

Speak Up Whitefish

Chairperson Maetzold requested the topic be placed on the May regular meeting or work session as time allows.

 

Important Dates

Chairperson Maetzold reminded the board of the May 7 meeting to canvass the election at 4 p.m.  She also reminded the board that she, Superintendent House and District Clerk Reisch will meet May 3 regarding the Muldown bond refunding.  She also informed the trustees of the upcoming MTSBA conference and encouraged board members to attend.

 

Adjourn Work Session

Pat Jarvi moved to adjourn the meeting at 10:40 p.m. David Kauffman seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.
