The Trustees of Whitefish School District No. 44 and High School met for a work session on November 22, 2005 in the Whitefish High School Library.

Members Present: Chairperson Dave Fern, Pat Jarvi, Amy Eddy, and Phil Mitchell.

Members Absent: Doug Rhodes, Eric Hosek and Brian Lauterbach.

Officials Present: Superintendent Jerry House and District Clerk Danelle Reisch.

Call to Order

Chairperson Fern called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.

Review and Revision of the Agenda

There were no changes.

Public Comment

There was none.

Board Retreat Update

After discussion, it was agreed the board would meet with the administration for a retreat update on May 9, from 9 to noon and the board would meeting alone from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Jay Billmayer – Gym Floor Proposal

Superintendent House provided information to ventilate beneath the high school gymnasium floor. The cost for Jay Billmayer’s engineered plan would be about $87,000.

School Funding Update

Superintendent House provided information relating to school funding. He was in Helena last week to meet with the Interim Funding Committee. Representative Mike Jopek and Senator Dan Weinberg will meet with the board on Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Whitefish High School library.

Informational Discussion Session

Central School Presentation

Central School Principal Kim Anderson presented information about Middle School philosophy, middle school students and parents of middle school children. Middle school is a time for students to explore. Central School allows exploration using team teaching across different curricula, Montana Behavior Initiative, and programs like recess before lunch, as well as sharing how Central School works.

Pat Jarvi moved to adjourn the meeting at 9:35 p.m. Amy Eddy seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.
