The Trustees of Whitefish School District No. 44 and High School met for a work session on April 26, 2005 in the Whitefish High School Library.

 

Members Present:         Chairperson Linda Maetzold, Dave Fern, Pat Jarvi, Doug Rhodes, Amy Eddy, Phil Mitchell, and Brian Lauterbach.

 

Members Absent:          None.

 

Officials Present:           Superintendent Jerry House, District Clerk Danelle Reisch and Student Representative Steven Clark.

 

Call to Order-Special Meeting

Chairperson Maetzold called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

 

Review and Revision of the Agenda

Added cell phone discussion after Public Comment and added Item 9 to set a date to canvass the election.  There were no changes.

 

Public Comment

Superintendent House presented Chairperson Maetzold with flowers and gifts for her service to the board of trustees.

 

Cell Phones

Superintendent House presented potential changes to coordinate Policy 3630 with the school handbooks. The existing policy was approved March 8.  The changes will be presented as first reading at the May business meeting.

 

Student Handbooks

 

Whitefish High School

Whitefish High School Principal Kent Paulson and Assistant Principal Jeff Peck presented changes to the WHS handbook based on student council and community input.

 

Whitefish High School Activities Director Megan Olson presented changes to the Activities and Coaches handbooks.

 

Whitefish Independent High School

Independent High School teacher Ray Boksich presented the changes to the Whitefish Independent High School handbook.

 

Central School

Central School Assistant Principal Kerry Drown presented changes to the Central School student handbook.

 

Muldown Elementary

Muldown Principal Jill Rocksund presented changes to the Muldown handbook.

 

Tracking of Students

Superintendent House presented information from Whitefish High School related to numbers of students who enrolled and exited Whitefish High School related to the following reasons:

·         Transfers

·         Home School

·         GED

·         Unknown

 

Appendix B – Revised

Superintendent House presented a Memorandum of Agreement with the Whitefish Education Association regarding extracurricular salaries.

 

Policy Review for First Reading at the May meeting

·         Policy 2160, 2160P – Title I Parent Involvement

·         Policy 3300, 3300P, 3300F – Suspension and Expulsion

·         Policy  3600, 3600P, 3600 F1, 3600 F2 – Student Records

 

Personnel and Budget

Superintendent House requested direction from the board regarding some accreditation deficiencies relating to lack of principals at Muldown (1.5 principals needed) and lack of a librarian at Central.  However, the District does not have the budget required to meet the accreditation standards.  He asked the trustees if small class size was a priority over meeting accreditation standards and they concurred.

 

Canvass Election

The trustees agreed to meet to canvass the election Wednesday, May 4 in the District Office at 8 a.m.

 

Adjourn

Phil Mitchell moved to adjourn the meeting at 9:45 p.m.  Brian Lauterbach seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.
